Education expo in Saudi

by Expatguru - 01/29/2012

"This article gives information about the upcoming education expo in Saudi Arabia."

Things are happening in Saudi in the Education front, particularly for teachers. There is going to be a grand International Exhibition and Forum for Education in Riyadh, the capital city, from February 13, 2012.

The Saudi Government’s Ministry of Education has already signed agreements with as many as nine sponsors for the event. This is going to see reputed names such as Education Experts, Tatweer Holding and Saudi Research and Publication Company in the fray.

The kingdom has grand plans for the Education sector. This year’s budget saw an allocation of Saudi Riyals 168 billion, the largest ever in Saudi history for Education. The exhibition and forum is going to be a five-day affair and a major event. It will be attended by over 140 national and international companies. These companies would be displaying their products and services and at the same time, the event is going to be a major meeting place for employers and potential teachers.

The event would also host a forum which would last for three days. 30 local companies and speakers from 13 countries all over the world would be participating in this forum. Students from 20 secondary schools in the kingdom would also be part of this event.

This is the second event hosted by the Ministry of Education. Last year’s maiden exhibition saw a record number of offer letters for teachers being issued. 14000 square meters of land has been earmarked for the event which is expected to attract at least 30000 visitors this year. The expo is going to be a great opportunity for teachers, universities and educational institutions to keep themselves updated on the latest developments in supportive programs and teaching methods.

There are 22 public universities, 9 private universities and 20 private colleges in Saudi Arabia, which gives an idea for the amount of opportunities available for teaching profession. The authorities are hoping to increase substantially the number of visiting delegates from last year’s 1500. For those who would be able to make it to the event, it is going to be a memorable one as the GCC region has not seen such a mega expo exclusively for Education sector in the recent past.

The US-based International Society for Technology in Education (http://www.iste.org) will co-administer this event. Those expats wishing to explore this event can register themselves in the official website (http://www.iefe.sa/en/) which also has a link for applying for a Saudi visa to attend the event. Who knows, this might work out to be the turning point in your quest for a teaching job in Saudi Arabia!

Great post, Expatguru. Are expat teachers allowed in Saudi schools too?

@Martha - Thanks for your comments. Yes, expats are allowed to teach, but only in International Schools which cater only to expats, not in Saudi Government-run schools. In fact, Saudi kids are not allowed to study in International schools.

Why do the schools (who use recruting agencies) constantly adverstise for positions but continue to use non-working e-mail adresses? Could the schools be contacted directly? I am interested in an ESL teaching position as an American currently teaching in Cairo, Egypt but the e-mails are constantly returned (no adress) what's up with that ?

Dear Sir, I am an American teaching in Cairo, Egypt at an international school. I have sent a number of CV/Resumes and I have not heard or seen reply. I do know you receive 1'000's of CV/Resumes and can not respond to everyone, only shortlisted candidates. I ask you to review my CV/Resume and if it does not fit your needs (I am sure with my qualifications it fits your needs) please give me a professional reply, thank you but no thankyou, that way at least I'll know somebody is reading the resume. Thank You
